		<description><![CDATA[Richard Marr, who supported the efforts of the Heritage Center, passed away at age 79 in March.  WDick was a great resource for the center and most recently served on our Community Advisory Committee.  He was also an active member of SCORE in Traverse City.
We will miss him and will remember his wonderful support.

		<description><![CDATA[Dr. Joseph Gadbaw, the founder of the Grand Traverse Heritage Center&#8217;s &#8220;The Haig&#8221; golf tournament has died.  Dr. Gadbaw was present at this year&#8217;s 7th annual tournament in June and shot the first ball off the tee to start the game.

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Dr. Joseph Gadbaw, the founder of the Grand Traverse Heritage Center&#8217;s &#8220;The Haig&#8221; golf tournament has died.  Dr. Gadbaw was present at this year&#8217;s 7th annual tournament in June and shot the first ball off the tee to start the game.</p>
<p>Dr. Gadbaw and his family give so much to the Grand Traverse Heritage Center, including donating ALL of the hickory sticks for the golf tournament.  We appreciate the support of the Gadbaw family through the years and will miss the father of our annual hickory stick tournament.</p>

		<description><![CDATA[Local children were invited to enter their artwork for the 2009 Festival of Trains poster contest sponsored by the Grand Traverse Heritage Center!
Two winning posters were selected and those are serving as the official posters of the 2009 Festival of Trains.  They will be displayed at businesses throughout the region.

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Local children were invited to enter their artwork for the 2009 Festival of Trains poster contest sponsored by the Grand Traverse Heritage Center!</p>
<p>Two winning posters were selected and those are serving as the official posters of the 2009 Festival of Trains.  They will be displayed at businesses throughout the region.</p>
<p>The winner in the 5 -7 age category is 7 year old Matt Mudget of Traverse City.  Matt attends Willow Hill Elementary and his hobbies include building wood models with his grandpa, playing with cars, trains &amp; trucks, riding his bike and drawing pictures.  The winner in the 8-12 age category is 9 year old Andrew Morse of Traverse City.  Andrew attends Central Elementary School in Traverse City.</p>
<p>Matt and Andrew will receive a family pass to the Festival of Trains, a framed copy of their poster and recognition at the “Holiday at Heritage” event.</p>
<p>The entries were judged on creativity and how well the poster illustrated the Festival of Trains.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Lori Puckett has been named the new Executive Director of the Grand Traverse Heritage Center. Puckett succeeds Patti DeAgostino who has returned to the Grand Traverse Pavilions.</p>
<p>
Puckett was the Production/Promotions/Community Affairs Manager at WGTU ABC 29&amp;8 Television for 13 years before coming to the Heritage Center. In addition, Puckett was the station&#8217;s news and weather anchor.</p>
<p>She has a Bachelor&#8217;s degree in Mass Communication from the University of Michigan and resides in Traverse City.</p>
